"Don't Worry, You Can't Hurt Me"
2023, Acrylic on Canvas, 16 x 20in
This painting symbolises the declaration of resilience so profound it borders on numbness—not because there is no pain, but because every pain has already been endured.
The butterfly, lit aglow by the perfervid blue flame remains unfazed. A strange case of water off a duck's back. Despite the fiery ordeal, she painfully tends to the flowers, oblivious to the scorch and burns— what more can hurt her if complete combustion of the hottest of flames cannot?
The skeletal hand reaches out for warmth, heat, and passion. It seeks to feel. Something. Anything. It cannot, of course. For death cannot reach life, and even then, it reaches out unapologetically anyways.
This curious exchange transpires in a garden. It is a scenic spectacle of beauty nestled within pain. Both beings mirror each other's efforts in varying forms. One burns, and one yearns. Beautiful and transient, a fleeting connection that will not last but matters anyway.
A passing companionship to feel seen. To even feel at all.
