2023, Acrylic on Canvas, 20 × 20in

In my most sought-after painting, I ventured into uncharted waters: graffiti.

This exploration sought to not only learn the art of it but rather the scream behind it. The desire to make a mark, to go rogue, and to disappear.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and allowed for the strokes to just run its course. It was liberating at best— an escape. Hence my chosen words to graffiti is ‘escape’. What perfect escape would it be if not for a getaway car. A vintage one at that, loud and unapologetic. Every drip, splash, and clash dares you to judge it.

What appears like careless placement of colours are all conscious and intentional. It is often taken amiss that all those who escape are lost and aimless. Rather, running from something. But what if it’s the blatant opposite; running towards something?

The electric iridescence all over the painting are a grand showcase of light in a different form. A relieving validation that light will follow you amidst the darkness— despite the constant need to get away. And especially when you want to get away.

A haunting glow of everything we try to leave behind, still following us, still beautiful.
